The most basic Texas Holdem Card Position is the dealer button, which is often referred to as simply the button. The button marks the dealer for the game, although in many poker tournaments, there is an assigned dealer. The button is simply used to mark the movement of the other positions as the game progresses to avoid confusion and to keep players from changing their seats as the dealer position is passed on to one player from another.

The next card position you will need to take note of is the small blind. The small blind position is the one to the left of the dealer’s button. The player in this spot is required to make the small forced bet. The value of the small blind is determined by the house rules. Small blinds can be anywhere from a single cent to a couple hundreds of dollars.

And now we have the big blind. The big blind position is to the left of the small blind and this player is required to put in the value of the larger forced bet to the pot. In many occasions, you will be forced to play the round to the finish if you are sitting in the big blind spot, especially when blinds have been raised to larger amounts.

Now, you have to remember that you will not be in the same Texas Holdem Card Position forever. The dealer’s button moves clockwise so that the person who was in the big blind in the previous round will now be in the small blind.
